What is Demoxi?
Demoxi is a free software that enables you to connect to the Internet with confidence -- protecting your privacy, verify your personal information, and communicate securely with others.
What does Demoxi mean?
Demoxi is a portmanteau that combines the Greek word for people, Demos, and the suffix of the Chinese word for connections, Guanxi. The result is Demoxi, or "Connecting People".
How will Demoxi help individual members?
Imagine browsing the web and never having to remember your login ID or passwords to sites that you have previously accesses. Imagine when asked to register on new sites that the form is completely auto filled for you. Imagine storing private information, e.g. your medical history, a secure electronic vault that no one else can see without your permission. Demoxi will do all this for you for free. For a full list of Demoxi benefits click here
What is the cost of the Demoxi program?
Demoxi is absolutely free, and will always be free. Additional free features and services will be offered in the near future.
Can I change my personal information?
Yes. Sign in to Demoxi and go to "My Vault." Make changes and then select "OK".
Can I refer other potential members?
Unfortunately, there is no referral program available at this time. Please check our website for updates.
What do I do if I can't remember my username or password?
At this time there is impossible to recover your existing password if you have forgotten it. This is in fact a good thing. The Demoxi servers don't collect or maintain any of your personal data including password and therefore have no way of retrieving this information. This information is all stored on your computer, encrypted and secure. In future releases we will be initiating Threshold Key Recovery to help you recover forgotten passwords. This is where you elect a number of friends who contribute together to supply you with your password. While the friends separately hold a secret piece of the puzzle that is not of any significance, together the password can be reconstructed and recovered. The member also has the ability to adjust the threshold of how many friends are required, or how many pieces, are needed to recover that password.
If you do not remember your username, however, please click here, complete the form and we will assist you. Your username is retrievable.
What if I want to make a suggestion?
We at Demoxi welcome any feedback or suggestions. In order that we may better serve your needs, please write to us via the website or select the "Feedback" link on the Demoxi desktop.
Demoxi Software
How big is the Demoxi application?
The Demoxi application consists of a header and payload. The entire size of the download is approximately 6MB. That will reduce over time as we condense the Demoxi payload.
How much memory does the Demoxi application use?
The Demoxi application uses approximately 80MB of memory. This will also reduce over time as we streamline Demoxi.
Security and Privacy
Why should I trust Demoxi?
To a certain extent, you shouldn't trust Demoxi, nor should you trust any other organization with your personal information. That is why all your information is encrypted and stored in your "Wallet" on your machine, not on a Demoxi server. Demoxi is no more able to access your passwords or encrypt your data than any one else in the world. You have exclusive control over what information is disseminated on a transaction basis.
We at Demoxi consider trust to be extremely important in ensuring our members' safety about the information we protect. Protecting people’s identity is not new to us. The Demoxi leadership team has a combined total of over 26 years of experience in online security backed by 50 patents issued worldwide (with 40 pending) and 10 years of advanced research in the fields of cryptography and online identity. Your personal data, other than the data that you indicate as “public” are only stored on your personal computer and never shared.
How is my privacy protected?
The privacy and safekeeping of your personal information is our top priority. Your contact information will never be shared with third parties, nor will you be the subject of spam as a result of joining this program. For further information please review our privacy policy.
How is the privacy of personal login and stored data protected?
Your personal data is encrypted so that only you have access to it. Demoxi management has no ability to access your personal data as it is all stored on your local computer. Therefore, your data is as secure as the quality of password chosen to protect it. Your private information is protected on your local computer.
What exactly will Demoxi do with my data?
Where the data is used is purely dependant on its purpose. Whatever data you elect to be publicly available called Public Attributes (typically gender, birth year, country, preferred language, zip code) these will be available to advertisers or publishers to serve tailored advertisements on the Demoxi sites you visit as well as other Demoxi users. Your name or email address will never be passed on to any 3rd party and in fact is optional for you to provide. Those attributes that you include in your personal profile that you do not wish to be available to advertisers or publishers (called Private Attributes) will not be made available. Only you have the ability to release private attributes into the Public forum. Other than this security feature all other data collected is securely encrypted in storage on your computer.
What information is stored at Demoxi.com?
Demoxi.com’s central server stores only your ‘Username’ and validation Certificate. This allow you to sign in as a Demoxi member and that we can vouch you are who you are.
Where is my profile data stored?
A Demoxi member profile data is stored in your profile directory on your local laptop. It is heavily encrypted with a key that is stored along with your passwords.
Where are my passwords stored?
Whereas you can store your passwords unencrypted in your browsers Password Manager, Demoxi stores your passwords in an encrypted folder in your personal hard drive. This extends the security to a higher level as it remains with you.
If Demoxi is so secure why, whenever I update or download Demoxi, do I see the Windows Security Alert?
This is not a Demoxi issue. This is a Microsoft popup window that is a good protection against potentially unwanted software downloads. It is a filter to give the user permission to continue the download. Simply select ‘Unlock’ to safely allow Demoxi to open.
OpenID
What is OpenID?
OpenID is defined as an open, decentralized, internet-wide identity framework that lets you sign up on web pages without the need to create a Username and Password. Sites that are OpenID compliant list a field for your OpenID account instead of the regular Username and Password login. The number of OpenID compliant sites is growing everyday. For more information about what OpenID is and how to use it check out OpenID.net.
What is the difference between OpenID and my Demoxi ID?
OpenID is an extension of the Demoxi partner system. While both OpenID compliant websites and Demoxi partner sites will allow members to log in to those sites without the need to remember a ‘Username’ and ‘Password’, OpenID compliant sites will still require the typing of an OpenID account. Demoxi partner sites, on the other hand, will neither require you to remember your ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ nor type anything to enter those sites. There are many OpenID providers on the web but Demoxi, as part of the Demoxi sign up, provides its new members an OpenID user account as an added bonus feature.
What is my specific OpenID?
Your OpenID is your Demoxi ‘Username’ followed by ‘.Demoxi.net.’. For instance, if your ‘Username’ was ‘jsmith’ your OpenID would be ‘jsmith.Demoxi.net.’
When would I want to use my OpenID?
OpenID provides an additional option, other than Demoxi, of entering sites without the need to enter your ‘Username’ and ‘Password’. You can use it on any OpenID compliant websites. A list of OpenID sites will be posted here shortly but as an illustration, go to NewsCloud.com, click on ‘Sign Up’ and enter your new OpenID where it says ‘Use OpenID’. You will bypass the registration and be able to enter the site automatically.
There are 2 choices in entering OpenID sites.
- Sign in once using your ‘Username’ and ‘Password’. Demoxi will remember it and next time you return the Username and Password fields will automatically populated, or
- Type your OpenID account in the field provided. Demoxi will then remember this entry next time and every time you return to the site.
Please note that OpenID is a new concept and while the sites listed as OpenID complaint may, on the one hand, immediately accept your OpenID Account, other sites may not and instead will require you to submit (once only) some additional information that will allow you to return and enter their sites.
